I directed and edited this commercial in the Fall of 2016. I was approached by the producer, Courtney Prather, about directing a short launch video/commercial for a new casting app, The commercial is based on an idea by UpCast founder Drew Doyon and Courtney Prather.
The creative vision for the video was to make it seem fluid and full of motion, which we achieved by using a lot of tracking shot, limiting cuts and letting the script play out in long continuos takes. There’s also an important comedic element to the script, and I worked a lot with Drew to make sure the tone of his performance had a good balance of confidence and comedy. My personal favorite metaphor in the video is the ever-present cows; if ever in doubt about making something funny – add people dressed as cows.
